Tickets are limited and subject to availability. Historic Royal Palaces members must hold a valid membership at the time of the event.

  • Discover the history of cheese at the palace with the Historic Kitchen Team in Henry VIII's famous Kitchens.
  • Enjoy samples of Cheshire, Cheddar and Parmesan cheeses from Green & Lovely, an independent store near Hampton Court offering fine food and drink.

Join the experimental historians from our Historic Kitchen Team, and a local cheese expert from Green & Lovely for an evening of cheese in the historic setting of Henry VIII's Great Kitchens at Hampton Court Palace.

Learn about the history of Cheshire, Cheddar and Parmesan cheeses and their culinary uses in Britain and try delicious samples of three modern varieties. While the kitchens at the palace were never set up to manufacture cheese, this versatile ingredient was a popular choice at courtly meals across the centuries.

Over the course of a packed hour, you'll get the opportunity to hear about recipes from the past, discover long lost cheeses, see some historic cheese and dairy related tools and watch how cheese was, and is made.

Important information

  • Please note that the demonstration of cheese making and the cheese samples are made from unpasteurised milk, and contain animal products (Rennet).
  • The current health advice is unpasteurised milk can pose a risk to the young, elderly, immune suppressed and pregnant.
  • Henry VIII's Kitchens are a step-free route, however flooring is uneven in places. Some areas contain low light levels.
