Sir Walter Raleigh's Medicinal Garden at the Tower
About this learning resource
Format: PDF
Sir Walter Raleigh was imprisoned at the Tower of London for 13 years. Under constant threat of execution, Raleigh struggled with poor mental health. To help his own wellbeing, Raleigh developed a medicinal garden and made plant-based remedies. Using a sensory story approach, this lesson pack explores Raleigh’s life before and after his imprisonment, to help students understand the full impact that being imprisoned had on him. Through understanding how Raleigh developed coping mechanisms, students are encouraged to reflect on how they can support their own mental and physical wellbeing in times of anxiety or change.
