Was Henry VIII motivated primarily by the pursuit of pleasure or a thirst for power? Using this trail, pupils will explore the palace independently analysing contemporary source material to form conclusions.
Working in pairs or small groups stpupilsudents will follow our Tudor route examining symbols, artwork and architectural clues to assess Henry’s motivations.
Learning Objectives:
Pupils will:
- Explore history where it happened examining the physical evidence left behind.
- Identify significant events, make connections, draw contrasts, and analyse trends within the Tudor period.
- Pursue historically valid enquiries including some they have framed themselves, and create relevant, structured and evidentially supported accounts in response.
National Curriculum Links
This session supports:
- The development of Church, state and society in Britain 1509-1745.
- Understanding historical concepts such as continuity and change, cause and consequence, similarity, difference and significance, and using them to make connections, draw contrasts, analyse trends and frame historically-valid questions.
- Understanding how people’s lives have shaped this nation and how Britain has influenced and been influenced by the wider world.

Capacity
To encourage collaboration, you will receive one activity trail for every two pupils. We advise that pupils work in groups of ten with a supervising adult.
