Historic Royal Palaces are an independent charity, who love and look after six of the most wonderful palaces in the world; Tower of London, Hampton Court Palace, Banqueting House, Kensington Palace, Kew Palace and Hillsborough Castle and Gardens.

Virtual Tour: The Gardens at Hillsborough Castle

Explore this magnificent green space and discover how the castle’s expert gardeners are growing many types of produce sustainably at His Majesty The King's royal residence in Northern Ireland.

The Great Hall, looking up towards the hammerbeam roof. The roof was designed by King Henry VIII's Master Carpenter, James Nedeham. Originally it would have been painted with blue, red and gold.

The Great Hall built by King Henry VIII replaces a smaller hall on the same site. The Hall is an entranceway to the King’s state apartments and was a communal dining room. Here up to 600 members of the court would eat in two sittings, twice a day.

The Great Pagoda, an imitation Chinese octagonal tower of ten storeys designed by Sir William Chambers and completed in 1762. Trees with autumn leaves frame the Pagoda.

Discover the story of the 18th century Great Pagoda, nestled in Kew’s Royal Botanic Gardens.

This was inspired by the porcelain Pagoda at Nanjing in China and originally part of a ‘World-Garden,’ the idea of George III’s mother.
