Ticketing terms and conditions
You must accept these terms and conditions before you can proceed with your booking.
Tickets are sold subject to the following terms and conditions:
- Please check dates and times before completing your booking as mistakes may not be rectified after completion of your booking.
- Changes to the date and/or entry time of an admission ticket can be made on payment of a re-booking fee, providing the preferred date/time is available and at least 24-hours notice is given. The request must be made by calling our team on 0333 320 6000. Operating hours can be found on our Contact Us webpage. Please note: times/dates of tickets for special events including Ceremony of the Keys cannot be changed once booked. £1 entry scheme tickets are not eligible for exchange or refund.
- Tickets cannot be resold or refunded. To do so, or to alter or deface the ticket will render it void.
- Tickets must not be offered for re-sale via a third party. To do so will invalidate the ticket.
- Notwithstanding anything above, the laws of England and Wales apply to all tickets sales except those related to Hillsborough Castle and Gardens where the laws of Northern Ireland will apply.
Historic Royal Palaces reserve the right to refuse admission, terminate a visit, close rooms or restrict access to areas within the grounds around the palaces at short notice and without prior warning.
Please note, discount ticket offers cannot be used in conjunction with one another.
Visit Terms and Conditions
You must accept these terms and conditions before you can proceed with your booking:
- Children under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult at all times. We reserve the right to refuse admission to unaccompanied children.
- There is a strict adult to child ratio depending on the age of the children, as follows:
- 13-15 years: 1 adult to every 15 children
- 6-12 years: 1 adult to every 10 children
- 0-5 years: 1 adult to every 5 children
We reserve the right to refuse admission if the ratio of child to adult is higher than permitted.
- Smoking is prohibited within all buildings and anywhere on site unless you are in a designated smoking area. Hillsborough Castle and Gardens is a non-smoking site.
- Eating and drinking are prohibited within all buildings, except designated refreshment and cafeteria areas.
- The use of photographic and recording equipment, or mobile phones (and selfie sticks), are prohibited within all buildings (unless otherwise advertised).
- Unless signage says otherwise, you are not permitted to touch any of the artworks or furniture on display.
- Dogs will not be admitted (except assistance dogs).
- Security checks are in place at all palaces and will include bag searches and sniffer dogs.
- Back packs and large bags/suitcases are not permitted to be carried within any of our buildings.
- Limited luggage storage is available at the discretion of Historic Royal Palaces and subject to availability, withdrawal at any time and bag searches. You are strongly advised to check prior to your visit that such facilities are available and not to bring large items with you.
- We do not tolerate abuse of staff for any reason and will terminate visit in the event of abusive behaviour.
Ceremony of Keys Terms and Conditions
- Tickets are subject to our normal ticketing terms which can be found here.
- The named ticket holder must be in attendance, otherwise your group will not be admitted.
- There is a maximum number of tickets that are available to any one applicant, currently 6 tickets.
- Multiple bookings under the same name, email or address may be cancelled and will be refused entry on the night.
- We do not accept bookings by groups, schools or third parties, tour operators etc. Any bookings will be cancelled.
- We are not able to offer a waiting list.
- Photography is not permitted during any part of the ceremony.
The Gunpowder Plot Voucher Terms and Conditions
You must accept these terms and conditions before you can proceed with your booking.
- Historic Royal Palaces is acting as an agent for Layered Reality™ trading as Gunpowder Immersive Ltd.
- Sale of Gunpowder Plot vouchers are made by Historic Royal Palaces but are managed and fulfilled by Layered Reality™. T&Cs apply. For full details visit The Gunpowder Plot website.
- Vouchers can be redeemed for any Standard tickets to The Gunpowder Plot. Opening times and days vary. Tickets are subject to availability, see The Gunpowder Plot website for details.
- Purchase of a Voucher is not guarantee of entry. Vouchers must be redeemed by contacting The Gunpowder Plot guest service team at support@layeredreality.com
- We strongly advise that you do not make any travel, accommodation or other arrangements until you have received confirmation of your tickets and booking via email from The Gunpowder Plot.
- Vouchers for The Gunpowder Plot do not include entry to the Tower of London.
- Vouchers for The Gunpowder Plot are valid for 12 months from the date of purchase.
- The voucher must be redeemed and booked within 12 months.
- The voucher is exempt from the £2.50 booking fee.
- Vouchers and Tickets for The Gunpowder Plot are non-refundable.
- Vouchers cannot be refunded or exchanged for another product.
- Vouchers can only be used when redeeming tickets with Gunpowder Immersive Ltd and cannot be used for on-site purchases during your visit to the Tower of London and The Gunpowder Immersive Experience.
- Vouchers must not be offered for re-sale via a third party. To do so will invalidate the voucher.
- Lost or stolen vouchers cannot be replaced.

Sponsor a Stone Terms and Conditions
In these conditions the following words shall have the following meaning:
“You” or “Your” refers to the person or entity sponsoring a Stone.
“HRP” means Historic Royal Palaces, the charitable organisation responsible for the management of HM Tower of London and the White Tower that will benefit from the Sponsorship.
“Stone” or “Stones” means one (or more) of the stones within the White Tower available for Sponsorship.
“Gift Aid” means the scheme enabling charities to reclaim tax made on a donation from a UK tax payer.
“Sponsor” or “Sponsorship” means the donation payment made in exchange to sponsor a Stone.
“Term” means the length of the Sponsorship, which is from the date of the payment to May 2026.
- Sponsorship of a Stone does not mean You own the Stone or any part of the White Tower building, nor does Sponsorship provide You with any right of entry to HM Tower of London (or any other of HRP’s sites).
- The Sponsorship shall last the length of the Term.
- You acknowledge that your Sponsorship will be utilised to assist HRP in delivering its charitable aims in the general sense rather than any specific purpose such as upkeep of the White Tower.
- If Your Sponsorship is donated via the Gift Aid scheme, You confirm that You abide by the rules of the Gift Aid scheme, here: https://www.gov.uk/donating-to-charity/gift-aid.
- Your Sponsorship may not be transferred or otherwise disposed of without the prior written permission of HRP.
- Your personal data (defined per the Data Protection Act (2018) shall be treated in line with HRP’s privacy policy.
- These terms and conditions shall be governed by and interpreted in accordance with the laws of England and Wales.
