Alderwood Senior School, Aldershot, Hampshire
This bench was created by the Year 7 Art Club at Alderwood Senior School. The students chose to combine themes of royalty and the natural world in their design, as King Charles III is known for his passion for the environment.
On the front, a lion wearing a crown represents the British monarch. The back of the bench is decorated with an ocean landscape, including fish, coral, jellyfish, octopuses and a crowned seahorse. The four nations are each represented by their national flower: a rose for England; a thistle for Scotland; a daffodil for Wales and a clover for Northern Ireland. Solar panels and wind turbines are included to illustrate humanity's efforts to protect the environment.
This bench was brought to life in collaboration with artist Jill Busby - an artist, graphic designer and arts teacher.
The winning design
This is a striking and bold design that portrays a strong environmental message. We particularly like the details like the paws on the front and the hedgehog and rabbit on the sides.
