About this session
Key stage 2, MLD | Subject: History | Topic: Tudors | Session type: Exploring evidence, Classroom-based
Students will explore the reign and personality of King Henry VIII, using replica objects, and contemporary sources. How do we find out about the past? Are some sources biased? Students will use the evidence to construct a balanced opinion of the King and his reign.
What to expect?
- This one-hour session takes place in a classroom.
- Teachers will be asked at the start of the session about students' previous knowledge, learning needs and access requirements.
- The session will be led by a historical character in costume who will interact with students in a lively and responsive way.
- Your students will be encouraged to take an active part in the session through discussion, questioning and debate.
- Teachers will be required to actively support the facilitator and engage with the session.
Learning objectives
Students will:
- Learn about the life of an iconic individual.
- Use artefacts to help explore the past.
- Understand how different sources can help us construct a full picture of an individual.

This session is suitable for school groups with a high proportion of students who require additional learning support to access the curriculum.

Please note that the presenter will be in costume throughout. The session is suitable for students with moderate learning difficulties aged between 7 and 18 years.
We also offer SEND sessions suitable for students with MLD and SLD, aged between 6 and 16 years, who attend special schools or units.
