Secrets of the Palace

Hampton Court Palace has been home to many people from monarchs to servants, Grace and Favour residents to possibly even ghosts.

In this summer only session, students will explore secret parts of the palace and choose up to three stories that shed light on dangerous and daring escapes. Students will travel across time periods in this interactive session as they investigate some of the following tales: the kidnap of a king, the escape of Colonel Rose, the flight of Prince Frederick and his wife Augusta , King Charles I’s brazen escape to the Isle of Wight, the devastating fire of 1986 and the ghost of Sybil Penn.

Learning Objectives   

Students will:   

  • Be introduced to some of Hampton Court Palace’s lesser-known stories
  • Explore lesser-known parts of the palace
  • Develop and enhance their cultural capital
