Hampton Court Palace has been home to many people from monarchs to servants, Grace and Favour residents to possibly even ghosts.
In this summer only session, students will explore secret parts of the palace and choose up to three stories that shed light on dangerous and daring escapes. Students will travel across time periods in this interactive session as they investigate some of the following tales: the kidnap of a king, the escape of Colonel Rose, the flight of Prince Frederick and his wife Augusta , King Charles I’s brazen escape to the Isle of Wight, the devastating fire of 1986 and the ghost of Sybil Penn.
What to expect?
- The session will be led by an historical character in costume who will interact with students in a lively and responsive way.
- Your group will be led to different outdoor and indoor locations around the site. There are some steep and windy stairs, but the session can be adapted to suit access needs.
- Your students will be encouraged to take an active part in the session through role-play activities and questioning.
- Teachers will be required to actively support the facilitator and engage with the session.
Learning Objectives
Students will:
- Be introduced to some of Hampton Court Palace’s lesser-known stories
- Explore lesser-known parts of the palace
- Develop and enhance their cultural capital
