Experience Christmas like the royals! Discover how royalty celebrated at Hampton Court Palace in the past, through games, storytelling, and craft.
The session includes a tour of the Tudor palace and the opportunity to make a crown to take home.
This session is also suitable for Reception.
What to expect?
- This 45 minute session takes place in both the palace spaces and in a classroom. There will be a mixture of standing and sitting.
- Teachers will be asked at the start of the session about pupils' previous knowledge, learning needs and access requirements.
- Your group will be led to different locations around the palace.
- The session will be led by a historical character in costume who will interact with pupils in a lively and responsive way.
- Your pupils will be encouraged to take an active part in the session through role-play, games and craft activities.
- Teachers will be required to actively support the facilitator and engage with the session.
Learning objectives
Children will:
- Learn that Christmas hasn’t always been celebrated the way we celebrate it now.
- Discover that some of our modern Christmas traditions have their beginnings a long time ago, and some are much more recent in origin.
- Find out that in the past, Christmas was a celebration more centred around religion than it is now.
