What to see on your visit

Explore the iconic fortress in your own way. If you only have a few hours or a full day, there’s lots to discover on your visit to the Tower.

How much time do you have on your visit? 

  • Up to Two Hours: Explore the main attractions at the Tower and join a Yeoman Warder tour.
  • Up to Three Hours: Discover the site in more detail and find out more about prisoners, torture and the battlements. 
  • Four or More Hours: Make the most of your time at the Tower, see the Royal Beasts exhibition and more.

Tip: Collect your audio guide or BSL Digital Visitor Guide close to the entrance from the Beefeater Shop.

Please note the timings below can vary depending on a range of factors. These include pace, party size and the time of your visit, as the Tower experiences busy periods at certain points throughout the year.

See the Highlights: Two Hours at the Tower

Find out what you can explore at the Tower in approximately two hours. Whether you're keen to explore our main attractions, or learn more about the fortress' history on a guided tour, discover how you can spend your time here below. 

See the Crown Jewels and learn how these have been used in coronations past and present. Don't forget to keep an eye out for the Guards protecting the Jewels.

We recommend setting aside at least 20 minutes to see the Crown Jewels. This may take longer during busy periods.

Head to the Tower entrance and take a Yeoman Warder Tour. Discover key highlights from 1000 years of history.

Discover the Medieval Palace, where medieval royals once lived, and enjoy a panoramic view of the city from the historic South Battlements.

Explore the White Tower and discover Henry VIII's armour. View an 18th century execution block and an axe that may date back to the Tudor era in our Line of Kings exhibition.

Prepare for battle and discover the family-friendly Armoury In Action. See St John's Chapel in the White Tower, a unique surviving example of early Anglo-Norman royal ecclesiastical architecture.

The Block and Axe is now in the basement of the White Tower and not in the Line of Kings.

Spot the Ravens, the Tower's guardians, on your way around the sites.

See where many famous prisoners were executed at Tower Green and the Scaffold Site including three queens of England, Anne Boleyn, Catherine Howard and Lady Jane Grey.

Head to the Chapel Royal where some well-known prisoners are buried.

Sculptor Kendra Haste was commissioned in 2010 by Historic Royal Palaces to create a series of thirteen works celebrating the Royal Menagerie at the Tower of London. The menagerie was established in the early 13th Century and remained a part of the Tower of London until 1832 when the remaining animals were moved to Regents Park to help establish London Zoo.
