Colonel Blood and the Crown Jewels (SEND)

about this session

SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities) | Subject: History | Topic: Stuarts | Session type: Classroom-based

This interactive session explores the dramatic, real-life story of the attempted theft of the crown jewels by Colonel Blood in 1671.

Using multi-sensory props and replica objects, students will be immersed in the events leading up to the moment Colonel Blood was caught. Can they guess what happened to him after the plot was foiled?

The session is delivered by a presenter trained in supporting students with special educational needs. It takes place inside our learning centre and includes the following:

  • Singing and rhymes
  • Object handling
  • Dancing and games
  • Drama and role-play

Learning objectives

Students will:

  • Re-enact one of the Tower's most dramatic stories.
  • Be empowered to use their senses to explore a new historic environment.
  • Develop social and emotional skills.

What will your visit include

To support your day, you will be met on arrival and escorted to our learning centre. You will have a private lunchroom and breakout space. We will also arrange for your group to visit the crown jewels display via our staff entrance to avoid queuing.

We have lift access for anyone with mobility needs. We can book parking on the Tower Wharf for vehicles with 16 seats or smaller if we receive the details two weeks before your visit. Larger vehicles, or later bookings, will have to use the coach parking at 50 Lower Thames St, London EC3R 6DT.

Who is this session aimed at?

This session is suitable for students with PMLD and SLD, aged between 6 and 16 years, who attend special schools or units. Please note that the presenter will be in costume unless the school requests otherwise.

Unfortunately, due to fire safety policy relating to our learning spaces, we can only accept up to two wheelchair users in any one session.
