Start of the events summary

Join Rosie McGurran’s art workshop at Hillsborough Castle and Gardens as she invites you to slow down and capture the wonderful gardens in all their beauty.

'Plein air' derives from a French term and means 'in the open air.' The technique, made popular by 19th century French impressionists, refers to creating artwork outdoors, capturing the surrounding natural world.

Rosie McGurran is an Irish contemporary artist. She studied Fine Art at the University of Ulster in Belfast and then at the Glasgow School of Art and became a full member of the RUA in 2011.

The workshop portion of this event concludes at 13:00, however you are welcome to continue painting until 16:00.

Further information

*Workshop tickets include Gardens Only admission to Hillsborough Castle and Gardens and guidance and support from the artist, Rosie. If you do not wish for support from the artist, you are welcome to join in the creative atmosphere of the day and paint independently but will need a Gardens Only ticket or active membership account.

See our Getting Here page for guidance on planning your visit.

This event will take place outdoors. Please wear weather-appropriate clothing.
