Encounter the stories of Hampton Court Palace and experience history exactly where it happened with a self-led audio described tour.

Listen to the tour on your own device, or borrow a handheld push-button guide from the Undercroft shop. The tour can be accessed from The Tudor World Audio Described Tour page, or by using the link below. At the moment we only have one tour available, but more will be added soon.

We are working towards an audio guide that facilitates unaided visits for visually impaired or blind visitors. Due to the historic nature of the site this is a large undertaking with a lot of complex navigation and wayfinding involved. We suggest taking our current tours with a fully sighted companion.

View our accessibility page for further information before your visit.

Please see further information below regarding the tour:

  • The tour consists of 11 stops featuring a visual description of the paintings or objects, details about the history, and navigation to the next stop at the end of the track.
  • The tour takes roughly 40 minutes to complete.
  • The tour starts in Base Court and takes you through Clock Court and into the Tudor World exhibition and finishes outside in Clock Court.
  • The exhibition is upstairs and accessed by a spiral staircase.
  • There are tactile displays and braille guides available in the exhibition.

Where do I collect my guide?

Handheld push-button guides can be collected from the Audio Guides desk inside the Undercroft shop. The shop is in Base Court, in the far-left corner of the courtyard as you enter the main gate.

The first track on the guide explains how to use the device and a member of staff will offer more assistance if required.

Headphones

You are welcome to bring your own headphones.

  • Headphones are required to plug into the handset. Bluetooth headphones are not compatible with audio guide handsets.
  • Our audio guide handsets will accommodate most common types of headphones.
