Using replica objects that are based on historical artefacts and excerpts from contemporary Tudor sources, children will find out how the past is constructed from a range of sources and discuss concepts such as bias.

Children will weigh the evidence to construct a balanced opinion of Henry VIII by asking key enquiry questions.

Learning objectives

Children will:

  • Explore how evidence can be used to draw conclusions about the past and understand its limitations.
  • Find out that there is more to Henry VIII than the popular stereotypes.
  • Learn that important things happened to the King at Hampton Court Palace.

  • Understanding the methods of historical enquiry, how evidence is used to make historical claims.
  • Extending chronological knowledge beyond 1066 (changing power of the monarch as a case study).
  • Understanding historical concepts and using them to make connections, draw contrasts, analyse trends and frame historically-valid questions.
