A relaxed morning event for Neurodivergent, Learning Disabled children and their families

Enjoy two hours at the Tower of London free from crowds, with our Relaxed Hour at the Tower. This event has been designed for Neurodivergent and Learning Disabled children (aged five to 16) and their families.

You'll receive free entry to the Tower, the Crown Jewels and access to relaxed and SEN programming led by disability-aware contractors and facilitators.

We welcome all families who identify as Neurodivergent or Learning Disabled including ADHD, Autism, Anxiety, OCD, Tourette’s and all other sensory and processing difficulties.

General information

Capacity and Timings

Crowd levels will be kept to a minimum. Only ticket holders for this event will be permitted between 09:00 and 11:00.

Our capacity for this event is far lower than a usual operational day for The Tower of London. Tickets are limited to 1500 people. However, the Tower is a big site with both indoor and outdoor routes for you and your family to enjoy.

Crowds are being kept to a minimum for your enjoyment and comfort whilst visiting us. Whilst ticket allocation is set at 1500, we do not anticipate this number attending due to an expected drop off rate for a free offer and this being our debut event of this kind.

Other information

Lighting, sound and general effects throughout the Tower grounds will be minimised, or turned off. Content warnings will be placed on spaces containing material audiences might find distressing.

Access guides to the Tower of London are on our accessibility page. We will not ask for proof of disability or supporting documents.

A visual story will be emailed to you two weeks before the event. This will include information about your arrival and what to expect from the event.

Relaxed Hour at the Tower FAQs

Access information

Visitors with limited mobility

The Tower of London is a historic building with difficult stairs and passageways, including spiral staircases, and wheelchair access is limited. There are many steps throughout the Tower with cobbles laid in some surfaces and pathways. There are some low doorways.

Level access

The Jewel House, which houses the Crown Jewels, has level access. There is a moving walkway ('travelator') alongside the Crown Jewels which our Palace Hosts will be happy to stop if needed.

Mobility aids

A wheelchair is available free of charge. These cannot be pre-booked and are issued on a first-come-first served basis. It can be obtained by speaking to a member of staff on entry.

Lifts and ramps

There is a lift in the White Tower, which will take you to and from the shop in the basement. This is on the north side of the White Tower, opposite the entrance to the Crown Jewels. For safety reasons, we can only permit one wheelchair user in the basement at a time. Please ask a member of staff in the area for assistance.

There is a platform lift at the end of the moving walkway in the Crown Jewels exhibition, which allows you to access the raised platform to spend more time viewing these. It is not suitable for mobility scooters. Please ask a member of the Jewel House team to use the lift.
